I knew a girl in 1st grade who loved sheep because she thought they never harmed a soul in the world.
An elderly Rowan county couple died from severe head injuries after being attacked by a ram in their sheep pen, authorities said Monday. The attack occurred sometime Sunday and the victims were found about 7 p.m. when relatives went to their Rowan County farm. The two were inside a fenced pasture with several sheep and a ram. The woman was dead when the family members arrived and her husband, 84-year-old Carl Beaver, died Monday at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte. His wife's name wasn't immediately available. Police also will investigate the possibility that a mountain lion may have had something to do with the tragedy. A neighbor of the victims said the cries of a mountain lion had been heard in the area.
