Just a suggestion... Could the forum admins (Majere) PLEASE change the colors? The link text is excruciatingly hard to read, and the grey on black is also hard on the eyes. A black on white color scheme would do wonders, IMO. Here's the board I run: http://www.terrandesigns.com/holonet - this is what I'd call good contrast. Comments? ------------------ IP: 207.172.244.22 |

The link text is hard to read? It's blue, easily recognizable against a black background. The colors are fine in my opinion. IP: 209.144.94.7 |

The blue is NOT "easily recognizable" - I can barely see it, and my monitor's cranked up to full brightness. If you made it white or light gray the text would be MUCH better... Not only that, but it is well-known that it causes less strain on the eyes to have dark text on a light background rather the the other way around. Does anyone else feel this way? Is it just the blue link color?? Or are other colors bad as well? ------------------ IP: 166.93.39.23 |

it looks fine to me - and I spend most of my time on the ground - not in space... ------------------ IP: 216.68.176.24 |

I dont see a problem with the link color of blue. Perhaps its his display settings. Although white text instead of grey might be better? Ahh well, I like it the way it is. Darker colors are proven to be softer on the eyes. All bright colors do is give me a headace. ------------------ IP: 208.192.60.20 |

The color scheme is neat. I mean, if we were any brighter people would think we were some sissy Rebel club :P /me recalls how bright the RS pages were hehe IP: 209.112.142.14 |

Ya know green is one of the most recognized colors when surrounded by other colors. That and yellow. But then again green could be considered a rebel color, and yellow is pirate. In XvT and XWA that is. IP: 205.188.193.16 |

I like the current color scheme. The blue is a little hard to read. Just a suggestion but a red would probably compliment the page really well and you could read the links very easily that way. ------------------ CMDR/CM Athran/Alpha 1-1/Wing I/ISD-II Devastator/1stESF/VEN/NI IP: 208.129.162.14 |

"Is it just the blue link color?? Or are other colors bad as well?" Well... The purple link color isn't the greatest, and the actual plaintext color should be lighter - more like #CCCCCC instead of #A8A8A8... "I dont see a problem with the link color of blue. Perhaps its his display settings." Nope - as I said, my display is fine - the combinations you have are just too dark. "Although white text instead of grey might be better?" White might be too much - a lighter grey than what you have would be good, however... "Ahh well, I like it the way it is. Darker colors are proven to be softer on the eyes." But not as background colors - and looking at small, semi-light lettering on a dark background causes eyestrain. "All bright colors do is give me a headace." Do you spend most of your time in dark rooms? Trust me on these suggestions, people - I'm a graphic designer by trade, and this is what works. ------------------ IP: 207.172.159.11 |

Okay, a couple of points of my own . . . One of the computers in St Peter's (my college in Oxford) has weird display settings and I can't read the links on it. I can read the links fine on every other computer I've used, so I'm guessing that is Armage can't read the links it's because he has weird settings. Secondly: Armage, why does you being a graphic designer make you better able to judge if a link is readable? The majority of people who have posted can read the links, fact. Your trade does not mean all those people are somehow mistaken. I think that if we can find a colour scheme, perhaps red rather than blue based, that suits everyone, that would be ideal. I'm also glad to see members of the Dev making their opinions felt, and I hope Armage can make his graphic talents felt :-) ------------------ Official Hanger-On I am Lion, hear me ROAR! -=IM:AHH XIV=- IP: 195.92.194.4 |

I'm a graphic designer too, and I don't really see anything wrong with the color setup. The only possible problem, that could be corrected easily (and is probably the point of discussion), is that sometimes a clean color can be difficult to see against a black background. Take blue for instance. If you set a link color to an RGB Value of 000,000,255, you'd get a blue link, but wouldn't contranst very well with black, while something a bit lighter, or even a bit darker might constrast better. Monitor settings can affect it alot too. Armage, try turning the color down on your monitor. My monitor has adjustable color settings (RGB), and when they are all turned to their highest, the screen is to bright, and things don't contrast well, they almost blend together. BTW, hey everybody ;p --Am IP: 216.220.130.13 |

"Secondly: Armage, why does you being a graphic designer make you better able to judge if a link is readable?" I never said that - I justified my knowledge that black text on a white background is easier on the eyes. I knew someone would ask why, so I just said so up front "I'm also glad to see members of the Dev making their opinions felt, and I hope Armage can make his graphic talents felt :-)" I don't want to sound like a know-it-all, but this is the only board that I'm having trouble with. The blue is unreadable - all I'm asking is if it could be changed. "/me sets mode +endoftopic." :P "but wouldn't contranst very well with black, while something a bit lighter, or even a bit darker might constrast better." Exactly - I'm glad someone understands what I'm trying to say... "Armage, try turning the color down on your monitor. My monitor has adjustable color settings (RGB), and when they are all turned to their highest, the screen is to bright, and things don't contrast well, they almost blend together." Nope - that was the first thing I tried. Admins, trust me - I wouldn't be saying this if it wasn't a problem. Just change the link color (a 30-second fix) and it'll be fine. ------------------ SGT Armage Bedar IP: 207.172.86.11 |
