Usually I like to post good news about VE happenings, but today will have to be different. I am sure most of you haven't heard what has happened. The story below, written by Talon, will inform everyone what has happened to our great Navy and VEDJ commander. It's not every day that a great commander such as Atrus comes along. We will be holding a memorial service on Sunday, August 12, to honor our great Commander in Chief. We will be holding the service during our regularly scheduled meeting time, 3:00 p.m. central standard time. I will be making announcements throughout the week to remind everyone about this. -------------------------------------------- The air was cool and crisp. The lights were off, aside from a small display screen on the starboard wall. Dark Jedi Master Atrus "Nix" Hexum was in his meditation chamber more to avoid annoying lower officers for at least an hour. Not much was going on with the Navy, but there still seemed to be a lot going on today. Lots of reports to file and papers to sign. Sighing, he leaned back in the soft chair and let his mind go. He could feel through the Force the activity outside of his chamber, but he also tuned out of that. With a jerk, Atrus hopped from his chair and the meditation chamber opened with a hiss. The sphere shaped chamber was much like that of Lord Vader's, with only a few changes to suit the needs of the Naval Commander in Chief. The door to his office opened to reveal Dark Jedi Master and Grand Moff Kadann. Somehow, even though Atrus was ignoring the Force, he knew that Kadann wanted to speak with him. With a slight bow, Atrus said, "Greetings, Kadann. What brings you to the Mustang?" Kadann returned the bow and replied, "A few minor updates.. Upgrades for squadrons and such..." letting his voice trail off. When he said that Atrus noticed that it wasn't all he wanted to talk about, Kadann closed the door behind him and said, "The Dark Jedi Order will be facing a new trial and very soon. I don't know exactly, but this isn't going to be good." Atrus nodded and rubbed his chin. He had felt a darker time coming closer to the Vast Empire, but he was used to darkness. It was a way of life for him. -= The planet Tadath - 0824 hours =- High Colonel Ghen "Grassroots" Sexton adjusted his uniform as he waited in his pilot chair for clearance. Finally the voice of a lieutenant rang over the small speaker on the dashboard. "Shuttle GK-5938, you are cleared to launch. Watch the broken down TIE on the way out." Reaching forward, Ghen clicked the radio twice to signal an affirmative. The repulsors whined as he slowly brought the large shuttle out of the dock. Throttling up, Ghen started calculating for hyperspace and was soon gone from the system. -= m/SSD Mustang =- Atrus sighed as he watched the cocky step of his Uncle as he floated down the landing ramp. After a firm handshake, Ghen lead Atrus back up the ramp and into the cockpit. Once inside, Ghen said, "Bro, I've heard through some 'friends' that the Vast Empire will be under attack. I've felt it, even though I'm not as skilled in the Force as you are. Something is about to happen and it's going to be big. I've warned the Army's High Command and they are taking it seriously, but I thought I would warn the Navy and Dark Jedi as well." Atrus sat back in his chair and nodded.. thinking. "Why didn't you just send a message? It would have been faster." Ghen quickly said, "I dunno. I just felt that I should have come talk to you in person. Maybe to be sure that the wrong people don't hear about it and find out that we know." With a nod, Atrus rose from his seat and headed for the door. He noticed the look on Ghen's face and said, "You can come along for the ride if you want. I'm going to go warn my Jedi. I will tell Sithspawn before we go, of course." -= Atrus's personal shuttle =- Shifting into the pilot chair, Atrus mumbled, "I wish the Nix Hex was a two seater." After a quick check over the lights and dials on the dashboard, Atrus nudged the repulsors... -= m/SSD Mustang - Sithspawn's office =- "No, we can't put any forces there. Why guard something that is next to no use to us. The mines can be shut down for a short time and the workers can be placed in a safe place while our ships can guard elsewhere. If worse comes to worse, we just have to dig the mine back out." Daishi protested as he looked over the plans. Claw nodded and pointed to another dot. "The same goes for Berchat." Sithspawn was about to disagree when he suddenly found himself on the floor with a numb spot on his head. Pain started to seep into the numbness and there were a few drops of blood on the floor. An intercom on the wall chimed and a lieutenant screamed, "Sirs! There has been an explosion in the main dock. The ship will hold, but a good many ships were destroyed and many more workers and pilots were killed. The control tower said that Fleet Admiral Atrus and High Colonel Ghen were also down there. I have sent some crews to see if they can find them." Sithspawn cursed under his breath and growled, "Fine, I'll be at the bridge in a moment." Siths looked over to see the looks of shock and disbelief in the faces of the Naval High Command. -= VSD Griffen =- Kadann sat back and listened to the thoughts of the Dark Jedi. So far, most had spoken their minds, and at the moment, Dark Jedi Knight Talon was doing just that. "We cannot sit back and let our master be killed and not fight back. We have a lead on who this was and I say we should go take them out. I have two black blades with their names written all over them. Lord Atrus was a Master, Sect Lord, and a friend to me. What was he to you? Will you stand there and say 'That's a shame' but do nothing, or will you follow me into battle to avenge our fallen brother?" With that, Talon unhooked his Darkstaff from his belt, twisted it to make them two sabers, and held both in the air. Other Jedi followed suit and soon every saber in the room was raised above everyone's heads. As one, all of the sabers turned on with a snap-hiss and many different colors splashed the walls around the gathered Dark Brothers. [Similar meetings came upon the same conclusion for the Army and Navy. The Vast Empire would not stand idle.] ---------- Sunday morning, August 5, 2001, Tyler Ryan Nunnally (Fleet Admiral and Dark Jedi Master Atrus "Nix" Hexum - High Colonel Ghen "Grassroots" Sexton) died in a car accident. The Vast Empire will never be the same without his sarcasm and his strong leadership. I am realy sad. I didnt know Atrus very well, but I know that it was a realy nice person. I had a chat with him not so long ago...oh man, this is realy bad. You have to know that I, here in Germany was short before crieing when I heard it... But I know that the lord will take him into his arms and never let him out...thats what we should remember. It is a sad, sad thing. Not knowing him as well as some, I can still say that Atrus was always a good and caring person, sharp with his wit and always ready for a joke. I know he brought a lot of smiles to all who knew him. I was wondering if anyone knew how we could do something for his family. If only just to let them know we are thinking of them at this time. Maybe send a bouquet on behalf of the whole club? If anybody has plans for such a thing, let us know here. I'd be glad to send along a PayPal check to whoever would manage to do so. Ok, this is not actually Three. But, since it took too long for my registration to go through, I am using his name. Most of you won't know me. I am Drac, I hang around the VE channel sometimes, and Three is a good friend of mine. As was Atrus. It truly is a sad thing. I'm sure he will be missed by all. Even though I did not know him for a great deal of time, it didn't take long for me to become friends with Atrus. I can't believe this. I knew At pretty well in the past but i havent' talked to him much lately. i know i'll miss him greatly and think of him often. i wish i could think of something better to say. I think his family should know we are remember him as a good friend. And because there are people all around the world, thinking and being sad about that, we should make a website. A website with just a guest book on it, where everybody write his name in it and some words. Than we send a card to the family, with explaining who we are and that we are all around the world and so had to make it about the online way. I think - that sounds crazy (with that website and so) but - it means a lot to them, and it would be a real last action for a member, which lot of us only knew threw the Internet and give him the last greetings threw it. What do U think about that? I would make the Website immediately.

Atrus was a very good man. He knew what he was doing. I, myself, haven't known Atrus as of all of you. But, in the last few days that we did talk to each other, he wasn't the "All Serious, No Fun" person. He is really a wonderful person once you get to know him, and even playful at times. To find out that Atrus died, it really made me stop and think about what had happened to him. A great leader in the Vast Empire, and a great person in Real Life. He will be missed in the Vast Empire for a very long time, and I'm sure that as one of our other great duties as Officers, Enlisted Men, and Friends, we should not only sign a guest book and comments, but we should also have a special web page on the Main VE site as a memorial to him, so that not only that we have his memory, but also new recruits can look at what they can be from this excellent role model in the Vast Empire Dark Jedi, and Navy. /me Salutes Atrus ------------------ "Victory is not the true objective, the true objective is learning how you won." - Cosmic "We are the Way, for We are the Protectors and the Attackers. I didnt' know Atrus as well as some older members would know him, but I knew that he was a nice person and makes a funny comment from time to time. I didn't know Atrus too well cause I am the shy quiet one who doesn't talk in VE. I just read what people write. I think that Cosmic and Stormtrooper have very good ideas. It is very important that not only people of the past know who Atrus was, but that people of the present and future do as well. A little more on the card, wouldn't it be nice if we got Atrus's address and we each mailed a memorial card or for those of you that are poets, a little poem. Just a little something that lets the family know that we care. This may be hard for some people in another country. It was just a thought though! Even though I didn't know him very well I did talk to him from time to time and he was a good friend. It makes you think though, how many more members will we lose if we don't do something about the driving laws so we can prevent things like this. If a driver is irresponsible, he/she does not belong on the road! Too many peole will get killed! I would love to run that guy over with a car and see how he likes it, but unfortunately I will not get my chance! I have no idea who the guy was that killed Atrus and its a good thing too! I would probably do something foolish! Well, I think that I have said my peace and then some. Farwell Atrus! *Memory*Atrus: He was an excellent, and obviously gifted and devoted member of the Vast Empire. He was High Colonel, Fleet Admiral, Dark Jedi Master, and good 'ol "Grassroots". As the Beam of Light surrounds you and leads you to the Stairwell of Heaven, your friends, family, and side-by-side VE friends, sadly say goodbye. As you look down upon our small world from the greatest place yet to come for all of us, take a peak at us from time-to-time. He was one of the best men the Vast Empire ever had. His life was not the best, he lost his fiance a year ago on Thanksgiving in a car accident. However he served with pride, and he shall always be remembered amoung us. Again, this is Drac, not Three. (My apologies for using his name). This is the second friend I have lost this way. The first was hit by a drunk driver, while on her way home from a party on her boyfriend's motorbike. Someone was kind enough to build for her a memorial page, and it had 152 messages on it within the first 48 hours of her death being announced over the zone. I think today it has something like 10 times that, unfortunately I have lost the url. Anyway, my point was that the memorial pages are a good idea, in my opinion. Ryan (Atrus) was my second in command while the Navy was in my hands. He was always willing to help, did way more than he had to, and always had advice for the "Old Crow" on things happening in the Navy. I was fortunate enough to spend some late nights talking with him about life and some of the things life had thrown his way. Ryan, you will be missed. My prayers go out to your family that they find comfort and peace knowing you are now in a safe place. Daishi looked up from reading the report. He buzzed his communications officer. "Get a hold of second lieutenant Kuroishi of the Vast Empire Army. Tell him to meet Rear Admiral Upper End Daishi at Dome 8473 on Endoven. Alos tell him to bring his guns." Daishi said as he looked at the storage unit he had kept his equipment for quite sometime now. "Time to go to work again." Daishi said to himself as he equiped himself. I feel that I owe Atrus a fair deal and now I can never repay him directly for that. When the VEEC went down I found myself in limbo without a purpose in the VE. Atrus convinced me to become his Adjutant Tactical Officer. Now I conclude for it is time to morn the loss of a leader and ready oneself to do thier appointed duty in the wake of his loss. So much for lightning neer striking twice. It did for Atrus. First his fiancee and then him. He was a great member and a great man. He deserved better. On the idea of a memorial page i like the idea and i think that we could make a log remembering all the good times we had on irc with him. I'd be willing to make this if anyone wants to send me logsof a time they want in this memorial i would be happy to include it. I don't have many logs so i will need help. I've taken a long time writing this, simply because.....i've never lost someone who was that close to me. It's burning in me, and I just couldn't find the right way to get it out. Ryan and I go back to about 3 years ago, in the Emperor's Hammer. I'd conversed with him several times in the BHG, but I didn't really get to know him until much later when he dated one of my friends. There have been hard times, but an equal amount of good times. Ryan was always there for me when I needed someone to talk to. In all the people I've met online, Ryan has been the best. His loss has touched us all very deeply. Losing someone is always hard, but to lose someone that young is devastating. I really want to say more, and I feel like there's a lot I've left unsaid. The last 24 hours have been hell trying to put feelings into words. So, in closing, I'd also like to recommend that the Mustang be recommisioned as the SSD Atrus. Rear Admiral Sithspawn stood on the command deck of the m/SSD Mustang. Tears still brimming in his eyes, Sithspawn looked upon the chair formerly occupied by Atrus. The Command crew hurried about, preparing the Mustang for departure. Running his palm down the arm of the chair, Sithspawn felt a single tear stream down his cheek, as the world stood still. Nodding to himself, Sithspawn resisted his urge to order the complete destruction of the entire system, and moved to the Holonet to await his orders.

I have known the m/SSD Mustang to be the Mustang ever since I joined up, but with this terrible incident, I agree that the m/SSD Mustang be renamed to m/SSD Atrus in honor of the Great Fleet Admiral. Like Siths, I have had a hard time putting this in words.. I've tried writing something here only to delete it, so if this one makes it... I've been in the VE over a year and I had always seen Atrus as the high and mighty, not to be messed with, Dark Jedi Master. When I joined the Navy and the DJO later in my stay in the VE I got to know him better, and even got to work under him for a time. But even through all of that time, it wasn't until 2 to 3 months ago that we really started talking. He has been the only VE member who has trusted me enough to talk about personal stuff and he was a good friend (about as good as online friends who have never met could be, I guess). His death has been very hard for me, which is why I asked to work on these projects for him.. Retiring his characters and the memorial page. I guess I'm trying to put off dealing with it (as if I haven't already). I still find it hard to believe and I know that the VE will never be the same. And, even though someone doesn't believe me, I am NOT doing those projects to get a promotion. IP: 162.33.113.25 |

I'm having trouble just like tal but i differ in one major way. I used to talk to him a lot and not so much any more but i think it hurts just as much. i really wish i could find a way to say what i feel but i haven't found a way yet. I agree with syths about the mustang. Like Tal and g5 i have a problem expressing me feelings towards a subject like this, i just usually just keep my thoughts to myself. Its hard to put into words what Atrus has brought to the Vast Empire. He has done so much, even shaping two of our divisions himself. However, I shall not remember these accomplishments when I think of Atrus, when I think of him I'll think of the many great times we had together and the laughter that he brought to this club. No matter what I was talking about with Atrus, he always came up with a way to bring some laughter into the subject--even if we were talking about the death of someone very close to him (ironically, this was in a car wreck, as well). That makes me wonder what he'd have to say now..

Being a member of the VE since February, and only really being active for the last few months, especially in IRC, i never had a chance to befriend and really talk to Atrus. Occasionally we spoke on mIRC, but never really talked... Any death to me, especially when i knew the person, or at least had met them, even over the internet is hard. I am a person who never cries, if you read my bio at www.ironhorsesquad.cjb.net my character is a replica of myself, at least in looks... but when i got back from leave today, and first read about the memorial service... i shrugged it off as Atrus just retiring his character, but a few hours later, when i read the story, i cursed my ignorance, and my eyes blurred. Reading the posts in this topic has just completely turned my eyes from blurring to crying... To any of you who drive recklessly, or fast, just because you think its cool, that is bullshit (pardon my language) this is a serious wakeup call to everyone in the VE. In talking briefly to Atrus on mIRC i found him to be a great person, and i believe that through all the posts and shared memories of Atrus that everyone wrote, I have come to better appreciation of who he really was... I think that the Vast Empire should rename mSSD mustang to mSSD Atrus That was the best idea in my mind... The memorial page should include Atrus VE bio and history. Also we should use the memorial page for Atrus as a permanent part of the VE domain, and as a part of recruit training, they should have to read the entire page and be required to add their thoughts on him to the page. In regards to his family... i think we should rig something up where someone, (maybe stormie since he makes such good graphics) makes some sort of memorial card for Atrus, and everyone in VE sends him their real signature, with aka (VE Name) which he puts at the bottom, then we could send his family the graphic to let them know that he has 200 more people mourning for him�. I have made another poem for Atrus. This time it rhymes  King of the SkyThe Glory and Happiness that you are having now is nothing that we will ever feel until we leave our world and join you in Heaven. Along with the angels, singing and dancing, seeing loved ones and walking with them side-by-side. Being with fathers, mothers, sisters, and brothers of all families on 'cloud '9'. Watching us all, beneath the great clouds...watching...just watching us as we reside in our world. As children laugh and play in the summers warm light, the clouds role by, and inspire poets of devine power and might. Eagles fly as Super Star Destroyers do. They are the Kings of the Skies, the predators that swoop. They fly through the skies at speeds so astounding. Yet they hold dear their young ones or new recruits, and teach them the ways of the Swoop. You, Atrus, are the Glorious Eagle now, swooping through the skies in a way that no one knows how. Perhaps this is a little late. But, I had to get my consicence clear. Atrus and I had some differences, I'd feel ashamed not to admit that. However, he had an unswerving ability to lead. People like that are hard to find in this world. I've been living 23 years now, and I've seen hardly any people like Atrus. Most people I know(with some exceptions in the VE, and other online clubs, as well as in RL), are capable of leading, but only follow. Atrus fought for what he believed in, even if it meant he would get in trouble. He taught me the value of, and what it means to be a great leader. I couldn't conceive of being as great a leader as he was, but I'll remember all those things I learned from him. Goodbye, Tyler. We will always trust in you.
