I need some information for an upcoming story.

First of all, does anyone know if there are syringes in Star Wars? If not, how are drugs administered?

Secondly, I need any and all information about spice and other narcotics used in Star Wars.

Either post a URL with the information on it, or mail it to me at [email protected] - thanks in advance.

The best I can tell you is that there are many types of spice. The major types though are Kessel Spice (which is mined by penal colonies on the giant asteroid of Kessel) and Ryll Spice which comes from Ryloth.

Spice, I believe, can be taken in a variety of ways (including snorting, via needles, etc.)

i think there are syringes but they don't have needles, they just inject the drug through your skin. and glitterstim, the spice mined on kessel is activated by light but if exposed to light for too long it will become impotant. when high with glitterstim you can read minds for a short period of time.

Ah yes they did have syringes. Remember when Vader came into Leia's detention cell with the interrogation droid.(ANH) It had a bunch of syringes attatched to it.

If I remember corectly the less refined form of spice called Glitterstim is more addicting but also gives the user temporary telepathy. I know one of the forms of spice does this but other than that I can't help out much.

From Jedi Eclipse, a Hutt refers to the different types of spice available: "glitterstim and the kor grade of the mineral ryll....(a)nd there you see carsunum. lumni-spice, gree spice, and andris." Apparently there are more kinds than we have been led to believe. Perhaps this will expand your search.

Compiled from the Unofficial Encyclopedia http://www.theforce.net/swenc/index.htm

Have been unable to find specific info on medical practices. I do have this tho:

Medjector
this small, needle-like device is found in most medkits. It can be loaded with a medicinal cartridge, and the solution inside can be administered to a patient. They are simple to use. (SWJ10)

Types of Spice

Andris
this white spice variety is found on the planet Sevarcos. It is much more abundant than the black, Carsunum variety. Andris is used as a flavor enhancer and preservative, although it has been claimed that the spice can induce euphoric feelings. It was discovered that andris which was stored in deep, intense cold had enhanced effects. (SWAJ, TPS, ROM)

Carsunum
this rare, black form of spice is mined on Sevarcos. When consumed, it induces a feeling of euphoria and heightened abilities. When the effects wear off, the user experiences lethargy and listlessness. The spice also has a toxic effect on the user's metabolism, and withdrawal often results in death because the body can't react fast enough to the change. (SWAJ, TPS)

Glitterstim
the form of spice mined on Kessel, it is a byproduct of the digestion of the spice grub. In its inert form, it is carried in small, transparent, black fibers. The fibers are almost alive, and twist and curl after being removed from their rocky veins. It takes a delicate hand to uncurl the fibers, because - although they are flexible - are also very brittle. Individual fibers are stored in light-tight containers. This work is time- and labor-intensive, and contributes directly to the high cost of glitterstim on the market. When exposed to light it ripens, becoming a pearly-blue color when ready for use. When consumed, it crackles and sparks due to contact with the light and saliva. It is the only known form of spice which heightens the user's latent mental powers. A user who consumes too much glitterstim often goes blind, and the substance is known to drive a Bith mad. (JS, JASB, TPS)

Gree Spice
a purple form of the sensory-enhancing spice. (CE2)
-sorry, that's all I got from the entry-

Kor
this is the rarest, and purest, form of ryll spice produced on Ryloth. It makes up only three percent of the total ryll production, and virtually none of it leaves the planet. It was discovered that kor ryll had certain medicinal properties. This was found by Qlaern Hirf and his Vratix verachan, who were working to counteract the effects of the Krytos virus. The New Republic sent Rogue Squadron, with Nawara Ven, to Ryloth, in hopes that they could negotiate a supply of kor for use in augmenting bacta. Kor ryll absorbs light in the ultraviolet range, and appears black under normal lighting. It can be distinguished from colored, less pure ryll under ultraviolet lighting. (KT)

Lumni-spice
the rarest form of spice in the galaxy, it is found only on Hoth, deep in the caves of the dragon-slug. The combination of Hoth's environment and the presence of the dragon-slug make lumni-spice difficult to harvest and expensive to purchase. (CSW)

Narco-spice
a highly-addictive form of spice which found widespread use in the Minos Cluster. (GG6)

Ryll
a mineral that generates a type of spice, but not the same variety as glitterstim. It is mined on the planet Ryloth, and is used in a number of medicinal ways. It is also illegally smuggled around the galaxy as a recreational drug. In any form or usage, ryll is highly addictive and very dangerous. (SW, JS)

Related topics:

Spice
a controlled substance which has certain addictive properties. The primary source of spice are the Spice Mines of Kessel, which produces a spice known as glitterstim. Another kind of spice is called ryll, and is mined on Ryloth. Both have medicinal value as well as their recreational purposes. Ryll is a very dangerous form of spice. (SW, JS, COTF, SWSB)

Spice Eel
a thirty-meter-long creature native to the spice mines of Sevarcos. (SWAJ)

Spice grub
a creature that generates spice as a byproduct of its digestion. They have a particular affinity for humanoid flesh, and Moruth Doole used one to eliminate the Kessel prison's warden when Doole learned that the warden was working for Jabba the Hutt. He then froze the warden in carbonite. (JS)

Spice Liquor
a potent form of alcohol made from fermented spice extracts. (GG9)

Spice Lords of Sevarcos
this was the name adopted by the leaders of the major criminal empires based on the planet Sevarcos. (SWJ12)

Spice Mine Run
this annual pro-circuit podrace was run on the Mon Gazza Speedway. (RAC)

Spice Narcosis
a condition experienced by many Sevari who leave their native world of Sevarcos. The atmosphere of Sevarcos is laden with spice particles, and the Sevari have become used to it over time. However, if a Sevari leaves Sevarcos without carrying a supply of spice to breathe, he can enter a state of spice narcosis. (SWAJ)

Spice Shippers' Fellowship
this spacers' guild was based on the planet Wroona until Imperial forces declared their operation illegal and raided their guild hall. The Fellowship fled Wroona, but failed to maintain its stature. (SWJ9)

Spice Spider
another name for the energy spider of Kessel. (JASB)

Spice Terminus
this location defined one end of the Llanic Spice Run. It was here that most of the spice brought into or out of the Outer Rim was processed. (GG9)

Spice Worm
an unusual creature native to the planet Sevarcos. (SWJ12)

Spice-jacker
this was the term used to describe those pirates who illegally obtain spice by hijacking other smugglers and stealing their cargoes. The use of spice-jackers by crimelords increased during the early years of the New Republic. (GG11)

I have left the references intact in case you wish to explore the source material better. A list of the abbreviations is located at the site noted above.
